Michael
Knapp is an accomplished Information Technology and Project and Program
Management Consultant with detailed knowledge and experience of
successfully implementing a large number of projects within a diverse range
of industries.
Some highlights of Michael's career include:
Project and Program Management Consulting
Michael designs and implements organisation improvement and competency
development programs in project and program management. These improvement
programs invariably require:
- the competency assessment
of project personnel,
- setting the target project
management capabilities for the organisation,
- the design and delivery of
the various initiatives necessary for the organisation to meet its
competency targets, such as training programs, project management
toolsets and methodologies and the processes to manage the
organisation's portfolio of projects.
Michael is also a
convenor of the University of Sydney's Project Management Graduate
Program, and was the lead designer of that program.
Project Manager - Major Strategic Project (1993 - 1995)
Michael project managed one of Telstra's largest IT projects and one of the
ten largest information technology projects in Australia. When fully
resourced, this project had over 120 staff.
Project Management Consulting (1989 - 2003)
Eight years experience consulting to and training project managers and
senior managers for over 25 of Australia's largest companies and many
large Hong
Kong
based corporations. In 1992, Michael set up and implemented Telstra’s
'Best Practices' programme in IT project management. This corporate change
management programme entailed the training of over 600 managers.
IT Consultancy (1985 - 1989)
Michael built up and ran his own IT consultancy employing 15 consultants
and specialising in leading edge technology. His company successfully
developed and marketed several mainframe-based data dictionary products
both within Australia and overseas.
Contract Project Manager (1978 - 1985)
Between 1978 and 1985, Michael developed extensive 'hands-on' IT skills
working as a contract programmer through to project manager, successfully
delivering applications for over 20 companies across 10 different
industries.
IBM Systems Engineer (1975 - 1977)
Michael began his career with IBM, working in their Information Systems
Division.
Officer – Royal Australian Navy (1969 –
1975)
Michael is a graduate of
the Royal Australian Naval College.
